Working in Schools

Pure Media UK has a long history working within schools. Examples of what we have done over the years…

  1. A P7/S1 transition project in 2002 with the cluster of primary schools serving Baldragon Academy (Dundee, Scotland).  Enabled through the dynamic skills of Jaimini Jethwa the pupils made one of our favourite films to date ‘What You Lookin’ At?’ which explored the journey from primary to secondary school.
  2. Another notable highlight was the KenART Poetry Week’ in which we introduced the P7’s pupils of St Clements Primary School (Dundee, Scotland)  to the awe-inspiring dance educator Kwesi Johnson supported by the lyrics of Biggs.  Over a week they created a unique word and movement piece that was revealed to an appreciative audience from the local community (2004).
  3. In December 2008 we ran our iGNiTE process in Kinlochleven High School (Highlands, Scotland).  A group of fifteen randomly selected pupils created 3 separate performance pieces which included a film, original music, creative writing and dance.  These were performed to the whole school. Outcomes included: a rise in confidence and better engagement with school in terms of behaviour and work.  Amazing!
  4. We are currently running creative workshops in He JiaYing Primary School (Xi’an, China).  Our purpose is to engage with the pupils and the wider community to help develop their individual creativity, their problem solving skills, to build up their confidence, to give them greater social awareness, and to introduce them to the idea of social enterprise.  This work is a product of our international outreach iGNiTE programme, and is overseen by a group of Chinese volunteers led by Adam Varjavandi (2009)

There are many other examples.  There is no real limit as to the kind of projects we will do in schools.  It can be about improving reading and writing; it can be about helping those with poor attendance records engage more fully with the education process; it can be about bringing added value to arts based subjects; it can be about developing a cross-curricular approach and devising ay relevant supporting teaching aids; it can be about equipping teachers with the relevant skills to improve their performance in the classroom… Our work in school is always bespoke – we use our creative processes and a diverse and talented team to deliver the service that you require.
